It was the end of summer in 2024. And temperature was record-breaking high at about 45 degrees Celsius in the midday.
There is an old lady who lives opposite our centre. Mdm Huang is suffering from dementia. One fine Sunday morning, on our way to church, my wife walked over to her house to greet her and invite her to go to church. But as usual, she would decline the invitation and gave excuses that her leg hurt and could not walk to church. So, we went on our way to church and everything was the same as a regular Sunday.
Mdm Huang went out for a walk in the early afternoon that Sunday, and nothing was out of the norm. However, in the evening, she did not return home. By nightfall, her husband became anxious and started looking for her around the neighbourhood. There was no sight of Mdm Huang. We noticed several people crowding around her house in the evening at about 7pm. So, we went over to see what had happened and learnt of the incident.
A day passed by and the village started a search party to look for her. Mdm Huang still could not be found after an exhausting search. On the third day, the police unit and canines were deployed but there was still no trace of her. Simultaneously, I sent out prayer request to my WhatsApp groups and individuals. At that time, the temperature had reached a scorching 45-46 degrees Celsius in the noon time.
Two more days passed. On this fifth day, hope was lost on finding her alive. However, the groups keep praying for her. Throughout the whole time, friends and relatives gathered at her house to wait in desperation. On the fifth day evening, it was announced that they were determined to find Mdm Huang - dead or alive. Immediately, my wife and I continued to pray for Mdm Huang. There was still no news of her the next day. On the sixth day, we again fell on our knees and prayed fervently. Suddenly, I heard a voice from the Holy Spirit telling me that she would be found the next day, which was a Saturday.
The next day, temperature remained very high at around 45 degrees Celsius at around midday. It was Saturday, 7 days after Mdm Huang went missing. Around 11pm, there was a loud commotion in front of her neighbour’s house and we rushed out to investigate. My wife’s aunt, who was with us then, remarked that maybe someone must have found her body.
Upon enquiring, we were told that she was found alive! She had asked for water when she was found. Mdm Huang was rushed to hospital and was warded in the intensive care unit. She was discharged after a week and on the following Sunday, we went over to visit her. We bought some dried and packaged instant oats for her. At the home visit, we were told that during her ordeal, someone dressed in white robe actually brought Bee Hoon (a staple here) for her to eat.
It is impossible for anyone to survive more than three days without water. More so with the high temperature of 45 degrees Celsius. And she survived for 7 days. It was indeed a miracle. On that Sunday, we boldly presented the gospel to Mdm Huang and her husband. Both of them received Jesus Christ as their Saviour.
We will continue to minister to them, bring them to church, and nurture them in discipleship.

Dear WT, What an incredible miracle of God's loving intervention and help in time of need. What man usually perceives as impossible, God made it possible and rescued Mdm Huang after several days later under scorching high temperature. Praise God indeed from whom all blessings flow! To God be the glory. May her family and neighbours be inspired by this powerful act of God and the prayers of the church. Shalom.
