HE KNOWS MY NEEDS

by Prom Sopheak, Joy Hostel, Cambodia.

My name is Prom Sopheak and I am 20 years old. I came from Takeo Province.

I would like to share how I know God and how He touched my heart to believe in Him.

When I was 12 years old, I went to live with my grandmother in Pailin Province. This was the place where I first got to know the name of Jesus. When I was in Grade 10, one of my close friends and his family came to believe in God. He shared many testimonies of how God worked in his life. The next year, we were in different classes so we seldom met. After I graduated from Grade 12, I went to Phnom Penh to further my studies. I had the opportunity to get to know the gospel again.

During that time, I had a lot of difficulties in finding accommodation and school. My aunt, who is a Joy Hostel alumnus, asked me to apply to stay in Joy Hostel. So, I applied and was accepted to stay in Joy Hostel.

From then, I saw transformations in my life. Firstly, God changed me from being a person who did not like community living to being one who liked living with others. Additionally, I also had problem with my course of study. I prayed with my roommates about changing my course of study. God answered my prayer, and I was able to pass my scholarship exams for the Radiology course. At the same time, God gave me the opportunity and perseverance to serve in Hope House although I had difficulty with transportation. I had to cycle to school and to Hope House. God is good, he provided sponsors to buy a motorbike for me. He knows my needs.

When I was a child, I used to have nightmares. I would hear voices challenging me to give up on God. Yet, another voice assured me to entrust everything to Him. I believed and trusted that it was the voice of God. I believed and opened my heart to Him, and I learnt to pray and trust God even more. I have since stopped having nightmares. Since believing in God, He has also turned me from being a stubborn and hateful person into one who is willing to forgive, love, and serve others.

Finally, on 22 May 2024, I decided to be baptised at the church baptism conducted by Rev Prak Sokkheoun.

Now, I am a child of God. And all praise and thanks be to Jesus, my Lord!

Dear Prom Sopheak. I am so glad to learn of your incredible testimony of your journey at Joy Hostel. Praise God for the positive transformations that you have had experience in your growing years. I pray that the Lord will continue to pour upon you His abundant blessings of love, joy and peace as you grow as a disciple of Christ. May you serve as Chris's ambassador, and that those around you will taste and experience the goodness of our Lord Jesus Christ, and turn their hearts to Him in faith and obedience. In my next visit to Cambodia, I hope to be able to meet you. Take care. God bless! Shalom.
